Hi all, I'm thinking about getting a cold air intake system for my 530i, however I heard that even if you install it and gain a few horsepower, the car computer eventually compensates for it in order to leave power as it was making the installation useless. Is that true? does installing it make any harm to the car in any way?

How many extra HP should I expect, and will the car sound differently?
yes I know, too many questions, but I want to make sure I won't waste $300 in a useless part.
thanks!

I am not 100% on this, but I think I have read somewhere that a CAI is useless without a remap... I'm not sure about it though.

Depends on if you plan to still use your hood or not.

best intake setup for the e60s would be the RPI scoop with an aftermarket filter, a package is available with the BMC air filter. and many have removed the charcoal filter as well. we have the scoops in stock btw

Please whatever you do, DON'T get the aFe CAI. You will lose HP, almost everyone here who bought it had returned it for a refund. Do a search and you'll know.
Get the RPI scoop and a drop-in filter instead.

Just to clarify, do you need to have an CAI already installed in order to install the RPI scoop, or does it work with the stock air filter?
Last question, where do I get one? tried searching for it but no website came up, only discussion forums, reviews, etc...

Does the kit (scoop+filter) come with clear installation instructions? Is it easy to install like most CAIs?
I am worried that there may be a computer remapping needed. You know how the computer tells you when the air filter and other parts need to be replaced.
Last question: what do you mean by "charcoal filter"? and what do they mean by "drop in bmc filter", what's the drop mean, can i do that myself?
It might be easier to talk on the phone, i can call you if you give me your #
thanks
