It's not. The inside is rubber. You don't hear the coins in there. If you just put them in the ashtray you'll hear them, since it's just plastic, no rubber.

Very true. I found out about this secret compartment true this board and keep my coins and a christoffel sign (for safe driving) in there. No rattles or clinging coins for me. It works great!!
