Comment to add. This is the most ridiculous and MOST stupid plan I have ever seen. It's like throwing money down the drain.

I understand everything has its expected useful life or an expiration date. But this is just plain premature death.
Agreed, funny how I haven't seen any "muscle cars" in this program. Instead they are killing very efficient I6 BMW's, tragic

My Ride: 2006 530xi (Titanium Grey/ Black interior) Debaged, L.e.d. light upgrade throughout. ACS roof spoiler. H&R sport sprigs, Angel eye upgrade, euro sticker, ,matte black grills.
Overall, in think the cash for clunkers deal is good. I takes bad cars off the road and helps the environment, and also is a win-win for the government that owns most of gm. They get them business and keep the world cleaner. But seeing some great cars go to the scrap yards.....SUcks! I also saw a wrangler soft top on the lot. It was so clean, just had rusted out push bars... besides that.. it was perfect. Oh well. Hope they enjoy their new wheels.

If only true junk cars were being crushed then fine, howerver some truly classic cars are crushed also. I know whole vehicle must be scrapped but I saw on the news a junk yard removing parts. The gov't can not oversee a project this large.

+1, parts WILL be sold off. No matter what anyone says a decent running engine and tranny will find a new home. That is one of the problems with the whole program, the car has to be running and in fairly good condition which means someone is going to make a mint off the parts removed.

My Ride: 2008 535i Monaco blue/cream beige, light poplar trim, sport, nav, premium, Logic 7, 6 speed manual
My other rides:
Departed: 2006 530xi Silver gray/black, anthracite maple trim, cold, sport, nav, premium, Logic 7, 6 speed steptronic, bluetooth, adaptive xenons
Departed...2002 525i White/beige, 5 sp manual
That was painful...
I guess the theory is that if parts are taken off these cars, it just keeps others like them running longer. When you think about the resources required to remake parts, however, that part of the program doesn't seem very green....
Not a very well conceived program. I wonder if anyone has really done the math on this one in terms of incremetal gas savings nationally.

hahaha...you guys dont really think that the "clunkers" in this post will destroyed do you? come on, i would say at least 25% of the "clunkers" that have been returned will one way or another find there way back to the road. and 25% is probably a conservative number.
