nope. the government paid 4500 bucks to get something that gets below 18 mpg (or whatever it is) off the road.

CARS is nto a stimulus program, it is a green program first and foremost.

additionally, these cars cant even parted out. scrap yards have to crush the car. you cant legally sell anything off of it.

I thought it's either $3500 or $4500. $3500 for 4 mpg improvement and $4500 for 10 mpg improvement.

I would pay $3500 for the red car!!!!

What a waste! If Mayor Bloomberg passed it, he would've auctioned the cars back out!

this is another moment i know i am a true BMW enthusiast. I am truly heartbroken that the red one is going to be crushed.
It gets worse... Before it's crushed the oil is replaced with sodium silicate and then run which eventually seizes the engine components. There's a reason it's known as liquid glass.

WARNING this is very disturbing:

Taking a cue from the Germans it seems. Scrap yards ended up selling their "clunkers" to organized crime, who sold them to Africa and other... um, low rent places. Not really getting the things off the roads, but oh well. Nice try. Would have liked it better if the fuel efficiency component was more strict. Say, clunker must be under 20mpg, and new car must be over 35 or something.

23.4mpg avg at time of destruction.

are you kidding me????

you know. this car would still be running in 10 years from now still getting 24 MPG when the kia that moron bought is in a scrap yard somewhere.

this is a shame. car is getting avg 23.4 mpg and it is deemed worthy of destruction to put some homo in a kia at the tax payers expense?

WHAT IS GOING ON HERE PEOPLE?!?!??!?!?!

this is a shame. and an embarrassment to all American's this is a COMPLETE COMPLETE COMPLETE WASTE OF FUCKING MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
