What are the options out there that would support a back up camera, Apple Car Play, and still keep the screen looking factory and still allows use of the scroll wheel? Mine is farting out just about everyday now, it usually has to reboot and sometimes I have no control at all for 10-15 minutes into the drive.

According to the paperwork I got with the vehicle the entire unit was replaced when the car was 5 years old.

Lots of threads on here regarding this, as well as on Bimmerfest. There are plenty of MMI boxes you can get for either CCC or CIC that do what you need. I upgraded to CIC only because I scored a great Local deal on Craigslist. I then got an MMI box that does Wireless CarPlay and a wireless backup camera (believe me, you get much better picture quality with a wired camera but I didn’t want to wire it in and I’m fine). Mr12Volt is now making an MMI box that plugs into the fiber optic MOST loop and I’m keeping my eye on it. Generally much better sound quality though many people are complaining about the bass lacking and the manufacturer says it may be fixed with a new model this fall. Anthro on here got an MMI box for his CCC from Joyeauto I think. ‘0 to sixty’ on YouTube has a good video of what the MMI boxes do and I copied him.

I also had an Avin Android unit that was okay. It looks stock like the units mentioned in the last paragraph. However, I have been much happier with my MMI box.

I installed one of the Aliexpress units that lets me switch from my stock CCC over to just wireless and wired Carplay. The screen is super crisp and I only did it because I don't have CIC, if I had that I would have gone the MMI Route to be able to use the MOST audio, instead I had to run an AUX cable to my aux port in the center console and it honestly sounds pretty great.
Based on your post title, I'd go with what kd7iwp said and lean towards a MMI box. Mine is not a full blown Android unit, those can be neat but in my experience they have WAY more features then you'll ever use. I wanted Carplay, and that already does everything I need a real headunit to do (Music, maps, texts, calls, etc.)
