Although they are a couple of people that have done the E60 CIC retrofit overseas it hasn't been documented with pics. Hopefully this log will help those that are hesitant or not sure of whats need it for the retrofit.

I received most of the parts that i needed for the retrofit. Still waiting for a couple of parts that should be here on Friday. Looking at doing the installation, coding and programming sometime over the weekend with Patryk. Wanna thank R9ndy and Technic for all the help in getting the right part numbers.

And he is off!!!

Good luck Nelson with this interesting project. I will be following very closely and learning from you to repeat soon. https://5series.net/forums/public/st...ault/twoup.gif

Nice GL would this be for the Pre-LCI to the LCI center console? Let us know how it goes and if it would work for a non navi. GL

kakalika 06-03-2010 01:30 PM

Good luck with this. I shall be monitoring with interest. Any chance you could post part numbers as well?

Yes, its a pre-lci to lci center console.I have a non-navi unit in my car so this will definitely be a nice upgrade.

The main part numbers that you need regardless of you own pre-lci or lci are

61119185171 CIC HD Screen cable
61319167196 USB Port
61129196805 USB Port cable
51456976361 CIC Center trim
61136954526 CID CAN/power connector

Everything else is based on the year of your car and your wood trim. For those who own LCI cars you have less parts to buy than those with Pre-LCI cars.

If you have a LCI car the only parts you need to replace is the center trim and support bracket for the new idrive controller.

If you have a pre-lci be prepared to spend about $400-$600 for the lci conversion.

NC916 06-03-2010 04:40 PM

Dam IC how about the settings still the same or your going to do the LCI screens?

What settings?? Don't quite understand the question.

NC916 06-03-2010 05:21 PM

the menu screen is like different from the LCI to PRE-LCI, like the climate entertainment.

nelson29 06-03-2010 05:52 PM

everything is different, a lot faster and the HD display is beautiful.

Here's a couple of videos.

NC916 06-03-2010 05:59 PM

ah yes thats the set up I am talking about. Nice can't wait to see it finish, get lots of pictures bro.

John@Motorcepts 06-03-2010 06:08 PM

$400-$600 FOR THE ENTIRE CONVERSION???? HOW??????

Sorry i meant from the pre-lci to lci trim conversion. The total for the retrofit ranges from $3000-$3500. If you get the CIC, CID, and Controller package(programming included) from Patryk is $2750 without none of the lci wood trims and other parts that you have to get from Germany.

Do you know what it required in converting an 08 LCI car to the 09 style? Do you have ro have the new controller? Or is it just software ?

You got a pic of your interior? will also need your wood trim color. You don't have to have the new controller, but its recommended.

And to think, you stated that there is little interest in this retrofit... seems like a lot of interest to me https://5series.net/forums/public/st...fault/cool.gif

Have you started the install yet?

I will be installing it tomorrow, the install takes about 20 minutes. Wish me luck on the coding. I still think theres little interest due to the cost. Hopefully if everything goes accordingly they will be more people willing to do it. Like Technic told me earlier, its gonna be a nice upgrade from me because im upgrading from a non-navi idrive.

Hey Nelson / Darren, I know we are chatting about the same mod in another thread however I wanted to tag this thread also. As the other guys are saying, if possible take lots of pics. With ordering and shipping logistics I'm probably about 4 weeks away from getting this done on my 2007 E60, but reference information you continue to provide is invaluable!

nelson29 06-05-2010 04:23 PM

Well, I just finish with the installation of the CIC and coding :hyper: . Im super tired. Everything works GREAT!!! The coding session with Patryk was awesome. Got good and bad news, the bad news is for me since i was the first one to do the retrofit. Let just say the retrofit just got cheaper :) for everybody thats thinking about doing it.

Had a couple of issues with the installation.
1. To install the new idrive controller it requires to remove the whole armrest and do some cutting that i did not want to do.
2. To install the new center trim it requires a new shifter trim.
3. AC console is a bit smaller, will have to upgrade to a lci one, but its ok for now.

The good news is that the the current idrive controller works great with the CIC. In another words its not worth changing the trim just to be able to use the new controller. The only thing that the new idrive controller has on the old one is source presets built in to the new controller but you are able to program the shortcuts in the 1-8 presets. Everything else works the same.

If you have a CCC system(pre-lci) the only parts you have to get is the CIC trim and optional AC console(used). You can use everything else. No need to change to trim, no need to relocate the ashtray. Thats about $500 -$600 in savings.

LCI owners only need to change CIC trim, thats it.

Kinda pissed that im now stuck with quite a few parts that was not needed. Hopefully i can work out something with Garry to return them, i know i might get killed with the restocking fee.

I was also happy to find out that my Dension 500 works perfect

The Navigation FSC code was succesfully loaded. Navigation WORKS!!!! The only issue which was a miscommunication between me and Patryk because he thought i had a USA CIC but i had an European CIC, so i need the US map which he will send me via FTB on Monday. Its a 15gb download.

Will post pics later tonight

NC916 06-05-2010 04:26 PM

Nicely done hopefully pictures can come up soon. So you did the LCI conversion and you also added navi? You spent like 2500-3000 then?

Georgieb 06-05-2010 04:50 PM

Congrats Nelson!! Awesome news that everything went well. Now I'm even more motivated to get mine done. I think I owe you at least a case of beer for being the first one to do this on a pre-LCI. My plans just changed also. Forget about changing the shifter trim etc if our old iDrive Controller works fine. I will leave everything the way it is in my car. I'll get the CIC panel only along with the AC panel once you show what the difference is with the two.

I'm stoked you got it working. Congrats again.

kakalika 06-05-2010 07:53 PM

Thanks for being the guinea pig. I'm glad it all worked out for you. I would like to use the newer idrive controller if I did this mod, I just think it looks cooler.

This where you have to cut if you want to fit the new controller, I dont recommend going that route.
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...IMG_0302-1.jpg
As you can see a new shifter trim is needed because of the gap with the LCI Center trim.

Nelson's is a pre lci!

Darron.Lowe 06-06-2010 06:25 AM

Looking good Nelson! Sorry that you had many leftover part. I am sure Garry will help out on this one to get at least some of your money back.

Let me know how you get on in day to day use of the new system. Do you find the changeover worth the cost and effort? take the Sat-nav out of the equation... is the retrofit worth it then?

As I have stated in the past, i find the current CCC system (LCI) very slow to use... would like to know how this one feels in comparison.

BlaSTiWi 06-06-2010 06:34 AM

+1 ... Not only he's on pre-LCI amazingly he started w/o Navigation ... great job Nelson !!!

The CIC is AWESOME. Definitely worth it. To be honest this was the easiest retrofit ive done. Like i said earlier everything was pretty much PLUG and PLAY. Beats retrofitting the Lci headlights and installing an audio sysytem. The best part of the project was seeing the coding session, learned a lot of how everything works.

I specifically choose not to buy my car with the CCC because i didnt like it, i felt it was outdated. The CIC is so much better in every way. The HD screen is awesome, the interface is very smooth. I have not played a lot with the sat-nav but just by browsing the menus i can tell is a lot better than the CCC.You can also upload music in the HD. I think if you're keeping the car for another 2 or more years is definitely worth the upgrade. Im still not feeling the F10 and the only i really like is the CIC/interior.

For those still on the fence because of the costs, its can be done for $2400-$2600.

dentity 06-06-2010 08:14 AM

So the coding takes care of the map updates... the system works 100% like the 2010 models? Would there any limitations?

dentity 06-06-2010 08:34 AM

any pics with the install complete?

nelson29 06-06-2010 08:54 AM

Working on the pics, was still coding some extra features with Patryk. Give me 30 min.

Gap issue with AC console, Thats only because i have a pre-lci. LCI owners will not have this issue. Is not as bad as it looks, will replace it when i find a deal on a used one.
