hmm well then you dont know my situation do you? i received my car with over 100k on it after my dad paid it off and he bought his own car, i actually worked at my dad business for 2 years to get it(2 hours on school days, 4 on weekends average at oh lets say 8 dollars an hour comes out to almost 12k), and i work part time to pay for my own insurance and gas, considering my car is only worth 15k, which i am more than greatful for, its not exactly a newer bimmer that my parents were willing to buy as much as a car i worked really hard to earn

You sound like a responsible young man. Stay the course, continue to maintain the composure of a level-headed adult, and you'll be far ahead of the game. My first car was a 72 Pontiac Firebird obtained at 17 with money I earned from working at the Sepulveda VAMC. I bought it from a friend - imagine my parent's surprise when I come home with my own car - and a pink slip for them to sign lol. Fun times...

As for chrome vs not, im noticing quite a few stereotypical undercurrents brewing in this thread. While I personally prefer the de-chromed look of my car, I've seen many tasteful examples with chrome. I just prefer a lighter car, and chrome isn't exactly lightweight.

As i said before maybe you did work for it..if so congrats. none of my biz either way how you ended up with it. I just see see alot of spoiled kids ( not saying you are) driving nice cars as if it was there own and as if they worked to earn it. Usually the car is the parents still, parents bought it for them or handed down to them. And its usually the kids who are the ones driving reckless putting others in harms way.

I used to like them at first.

But now -- not all of them, but most of them IMO -- scream "Look at me, I'm an attention whore!"

Hey man, if you like chrome, then go for it. Who cares that the majority don't prefer it. It's your ride, you decide. We all bought e60s based on different perceptions and factors. Some want to make them look sportier and/or perform better, so they add performance mods, SBs, spoilers, diffusers, body kits, etc. Some may perceive the car as more sophisticated, and therefore keep it a bit more reserved and focus more on comfort features like leather seats, nicer stereo, wood trim, etc. No two cars on this forum are alike any more than any two members are. We all look at things through our own personal filter based on our socio-economic status, where we live, our line of work, race, religion, whatever. The reason I enjoy this forum so much is that people from all over the world have different variants of this car, and we're all very different. Yet, we share a passion for the same basic model. I'm not trying to turn this into a "We are the World" message, but I am saying that you should feel free to express yourself through your car in any way you see fit. Best of luck.

Theres alot of "chromie profiling" going on in this thread...because one sees a BMW w/ chrome wheels it seems most here assume he is listening to loud rap music, or some kind of gangster. Just cause you see a charger, 300, impala etc w/ chrome wheels acting " thugged out" people wanna profile that all cars/ppl with chrome wheels are "gangsta" or what not.
Before i owned a BMW i heard all the jokes about bmw owners being a-holes, and pricks but this thread really opened up my eyes to just how ignorant some people are.

I hope none of you are cops because if you see a black guy driving a nice car or listening to rap, Im sure you'd be quick to pull him over cause he must be from the ghetto and he must be selling crack.
(Thats the kind of dumb logic/sterotype I see alot of you making)

i think chrome wheels can go both ways. i dont think im going to put chrome wheels on my 545 but i get chrome wheels for my mazda (first car). i love the look but hate to clean them. also chrome does give you a sort of "gangster" look, which is what im trying to get away from. also having a 7k dollar stereo did not help the gangster image.

heres a pic of my mazda. its not that good but it is on i had sitting around.

this was my first car when i started driving at 16 and now after all my hard work i finally bought myself a 545

Unfortunately this happens far too often (I've been stopped 4 times in my E60 alone to satisfy someone's "curiosity"). But that's another thread for another day. Let's try to keep this thread on the topic of chrome vs no chrome, wtihout injecting cultural/racial/societal biases into the mix.
