It's ironic that most "run of mill" cars have black trim on their base models and have shiny ("chrome") on their higher end models. BMW charges extra to have black trim replace the shiny stuff and then it's available "only" with an optional (sport) package.

Very valid points. In my case, I have the Comfort seats(fantastic, esp. side bolsters and articulated back), have the Sport steering wheel and have never hit the current speed limiter so I'm good with what I have. As I said earlier, drive the two styles and decide for yourself. Either way, the OP will be pleased with any E60.

My Ride: 2006 525XI, Jet black on Dakota beige. Premium and winter packages. I consider myself a purist and intend to keep my car absolutely stock and shiny.
2008 328I Convertible, Sapphire black on beige interior. Premium package, NAV, iPod adapter.
Retired: 2002 325I, Titanium silver on black leather. Premium package. Absolutely stock and proud of it.

Its a delicate job, but not hard to do. If you upgrade the pillars, it gets tricky

I say stay with the Black. It always looks better on all colors.
