The general consensus around here is that most people prefer the shadowline trim that comes with the sport package on E60s. I'm in the market to pick up a black E60 (probably a 2004-2007 530i) and I've always preferred the look of the chrome trim against black. To me it changes the look of the car completely, drawing out the lines and creating a more classy look. The shadowline on white, silver, etc. looks great, but personally I like the chrome trim on the black.

Which brings me to my question: since I'm probably going to want to pick up a 5-series with the sport package installed, is it easy/possible to "downgrade" to the chrome trim? I know people have posted part numbers for the shadowline pieces. If so, does anyone know where I can find the part numbers online?

Thanks in advance!

I too love the chrome look on black but I'm not a fan of the sport package (rare). Check out www.realoem.com.

Thanks for the response Gilgorm.

I'm curious, why are you not a fan of the sport package?

pjinca: Thanks for the offer! I will certainly consider this when I make the purchase.

I agree U-235, I love the chrome trim on a black car. It clearly defines the elegant lines on the car IMO.

Some people prefer the softer, cushier ride of the non-sport. Most of us, however, recognize our cars as what they were meant to be - sports sedans, as such they are not as comfy as a Cadillac or Mercedes, but the are MUCH more fun to drive.

The city roads in Toronto are in poor condition so the stock suspension already produces a rougher ride than MB, Audi etc. I sometimes feel the car is on wooden wagon wheels so the sport suspension would just make it much worse, IMHO. I also like the chrome trim on my car (black with tinted windows).
Loads of people on this forum and others like the sport package so I am in the minority.
Test drive both types on the same roads.

the sport package is not just the trim and suspension. I prefer it for the better seats, steering wheel, and higher speed limiter.

Chrome vs. Shadowline Trim-1-1.jpg
Chrome trim on a black car is just better....

Its a delicate job, but not hard to do. If you upgrade the pillars, it gets tricky
