Charcol filter Needed?

I recently put in a K&N air filter and saw the snap in charcol filter above it in the air box. Is this really important? will it throw a code if i remove it? Does removing it help out the performance at all?

Thanks for your responses. Don't know that it helps any,but it can't hurt to remove. No it doesn't throw a code.

Took mine off when I switched to K&N Filter.

What are you guys doing for replacement tires? My rears are screaming loud and past the treadwear indicators.

I just removed it and drove 15 miles. I did notice a difference is throttle response immediately. Not sure i notice anything else about it.

...and you'll see low-end torque and gas mileage drop ;-) unless you driving at 100+ mph daily.
