Not on my car. Matter of fact my SA, who is a really good friend, said it was also a good idea.

Now, you should go cleaning that MAF sensor next, but you probably think this is a bunch of BS at first.

Gene- I see on page 118 of the owner's manual it speaks of the charcoal filter. Is this a different charcoal filter than the OP referred to?
Correct.
There's a charcoal filter for filtering air coming into the cabin. It filters odors and particulates which would otherwise travel into the passenger compartment. Leave that one in place as it doesn't change the power profile at all.
There's a different charcoal filter in the intake of certain models, right behind the air filter. When you turn off your car, a TINY amount of unburnt air/fuel remaining in your engine may find its way through the intake manifold, up the intake piping, through the intake filter, and out of the car. The charcoal filter stops the miniscule whiff of fuel from escaping out into the atmosphere. Take this one out for an increase in power and to cause treehuggers everywhere to gnash their teeth in pure unadulterated angst.

This mod is even for those with em, well, smaller engines. I took mine out. I also noticed an increase in engine growl, which even for one of the smallest E60 engines, still sounds amazing. Not feeling the performace as much, but that's probably due to the fact I never really drove my car hard before the modding began

Also, no check engine, no errors. No idea where that came from. DO IT!
