I picked up my 550 yesterday... Fantastic car! Not being able to leave "perfect" alone - this mod is my first of many. Interesting differences in the '07 that members might want to know...
1) the electronic sensor has a plastic cover with four pressure tabs at each corner which then allows the cover to hinge open to reveal the sensor. Once the cover's off it's the same. It's easy to open it up and it's a clever bit that looks great.
2) BMW constantly amazes me- because they did away with the metal clips to hold the charcoal filter in place and now there are four heat welded sections bonding the filter to the cover. This is an easy fix with a utility knife to cleanly sever the welds and remove the filter. I don't know if it's a cost saver or if they're reading this forum and know we all want to remove this!
Thanks to all for posting on this.
Cheers!

On my o6 550 the charcoal filter was held in place the same way with the heated plastc welds, I just applied pressure and the broke away cleanly.

Took mine out in about 5 mins. I noticed a free reving quality to the engine and slightly more responsiveness. Don't know if it adds HP but it make sense that more air to the engine would provide a better throttle response.
BTW...some leaves, no styrofoam.

I definitely notice a difference - feels a little peppier...what fun!
I need to get around to posting some pics...

Well, I got my intake resonator mod done, got some good and bad stuff. Bad stuff is that the intake pipe is about 3.5" in diameter, so fitting an aluminum piece in its place is impossible; however, I was able to cut the resonator off the pipe and capped it. Car picks up a bit of power from 2800-3500rpm in D mode, I had yet to try it in DS or auto-manual mode, because I had my wife and the mother in law with me. The weather tomorrow is a bit cooler, so I think I can do a full DS and auto-manual modes tests. I will report back along with some pictures of my car. 2 more modifications and I'm done modifying my car.

I think this only applies to the 545 or 550 and the older 525/530 before the engine upgrade but i'm not 100% sure. The newer 525/530 don't have the filter to begin with. Can anyone verify?

My '07 N52B30 has no charcoal filter.
So I went back under the hood and took a second look around and I found the charcoal filter. It is there on the N52B30 engine. I guess I was thinking it was on the bottom side of the air box.
