I've noticed it before when I was cleaning my K&N. I never thought to take it out.
Car's going in for service tomorrow. Charcol filter will come out when I get the car back.

We'll feel dumb the next time our cars don't pass inspections. Don't throw those filters away yet. I'm thinking about retrofiting a 12V fan into the hydrocarbon filter spot and see what happens. Also, I'm going to wrap the intake with some "Reynold's aluminum paper" to ensure cooler air. Poor man's CAI and minor SC. This will be my second patent.

Can any Canadian check if this charcoal filter is also on Canadian cars (545i, or 2006 525/530, or 2006 3 series)?

Yes, the Dinan CAI does have 2 intakes. I didn't mean to suggest that all they changed was just the airfilter box cover.

As for their high powered fan, I've seen it in their dyno room. As I recall, it's about 4-6 ft in front of the car, I think and it's used to simulate air flow at speeds which is common in any dyno facility. I'm not sure if I understand what you mean about it being used to push air into the intake box. Do you mean that air is funneled directly to the intake box because it looked like it was just aimed at the general frontal area of the car.

Yes, all Dyno machines use fans. What I was saying, is there has been controversy on the Dinan facilities fan as being an unrealistic measurement of HP, because of the facilities special fan design. The simulation creates numbers which would be unrealistic to the end user, meaning their numbers would be different than your local Dyno shop. Apparently, their fan creates such high velocity winds that force more air into the engine maximizing their numbers. There has been several articles written on the subject and it makes sense when you think about it. Their product sells more with the highest possible numbers and even though their numbers are legit, the chances of you realizing their numbers are unlikely. Again, you?re going to have gains with all of their products, but go into it with realistic expectations. If you have been to their shop, ask them their opinion on the fan and post the feedback. I am going off the articles I have read, not hard data facts.

That just means that the mod was done for you straight from the factory.
