Does the K&N filter differ that much against stock? For $50, it sounds like the cheapest performance improvement.

i just took it out of my 530i this morning and i use the car for the whole day.. it did seem a little smoother and a little more responsive so a little difference.. not much difference in sound though.. wasn't hard to do at all either. cool cool

in my 07 530i, at 3000rpm I hear a very very noticible rawr sound after the mod
feels more responsive
I also just tooke the filter out and put a K&N in.
The result after a first test drive - absolutely NO difference at all.
Not even if I want to imagine a difference. :'(
Oh, and the sound hasn't changed at all.

Just to clarify, the mod is to take the charcoal filter out, not to replace it. When you guys speak of replacing with a K&N filter, I take it that you're speaking of the primary air filter.
Sorry if this sounds dumb.

No, not dumb. I took out the top filter and replaced the standard filter with a K&N filter.

Popped the charcoal filter out this morning, only had 3 clips, not 5 and didn't have to loosen the sensor. I didn't find any debris but the car is always in the garage (not sure if that accounts for it) I fired her up but didn't hear any difference, I'll take her for a ride later today and let you guys know. Someone said it launches a bit smoother with a manual tranny, hope that's the case.

Didn't really notice much in the way of an increase in acceleration. I can definitely say that the car is much smoother through shifts with the manual transmission. It seems that the car idles a bit higher, not much may 0100K to 0150K, this could account for a bit smoother shift as the engine maintains a higher RPM during clutch use. Reset the readout for mpg - car was averaging 24.2 mph, I'll give it a few days and see how that works out. I would think the mpg would drop if the car is indeed running a little higher rpm's
Just my thoughts
