Summer tires' compound will get really hard and loose its grip even on dry pavement when it is cold. For some tires its still ok, for others it is very noticeable.

Regardless of the brand, summer performance tires use a rubber compound that loses substantial amounts of grip at cold temps. They are not intended to be driven in cold weather. If you live in a cold winter climate, it is much safer to ride on, at a minimum, all season tires in the winter. Come mid-November here in NYC, I swap my summer performance tires for dedicated snows that I usually keep on until mid-April.
