Figured I’d best tell you guys about this as the weather is getting a bit chilly.

I noticed a lot of you guys getting these tires & I felt I should say something.

A year ago I was coming home after watching the Viking/ Packers game. I had put on a set Sumitomo HTR Z III tires about a month prior. Well it was a bit chilly ~45 degress and I was driving a bit hard. After power sliding a few corners this one bit me back. Those tires get a little greasy when it gets cold.

Now I know with all of our fancy electronic traction & DTS, things should be good. But the fact is even with this stuff, you wouldn’t be able to pull out of this spin.

Let’s be careful

I took out all four wheels, front & rear suspension, spindles, etc. Nobody was seriously hurt aside from my gal that got a black eye from her phone. We were on our 4th or 5th date. And we’re still together.

I had the flatbed scoop it right into my garage & i fixed it over the winter

Man, no offense, but WTF were you thinking driving like that @ 45 degrees on summer tires? What did you expect? Summer compound turns rock-hard below 50 degrees, so no wonder really.
Glad to hear everyone was ok though, and I guess lesson learned? Drive safe everyone.

I've been in the game for a very long time. Being an avid motorcyclist & motor head all my life, I know exactly what summer compound tires do with cold temps, that's why i sliding around having fun. I'm just doing my part to let some of the kids here know as well. There seems to be an influx of kids here now. Those 04 530's are cheap enough for the younger less experienced crowd to hitting the boards now. I watched it happen over at the S2000 forum where i have been a member for 9 years. I don't need a lecture, it cost me plenty already.

This was the last weekend before I stored the S2k. I ended up storing on the S on the other side of the garage

thank god no one is hurt,. good luck is fixing it. I almost killed myself driving 40 mpg on a u-shaped turn in 45 degress with my evo. the awd did help. 45 degrees seems to be a bad number.

so once the weather gets under 50 degrees, you have to put winter tires on?
i thought winter tires only for snow, no?

have been on all season now, thinking to get a set of summer and winter, but if i cant run summer below 50 degrees, then maybe i should keep all seasons, or some other brands summer tires can handle cold weather?

That was the TOP 5 MultiMediaMessage EVA sent to my BlackBerry! Bwahahahahaha!!

Lesson: Don't drive like a jacka$$ on summer tires in the winter on a second date.

Now you know! And knowing is half the battle. GIjoe!!

BTW it was 28 degrees that day, not 45.
