Hi All,
My company has developed an in-car Media Centre about the same size as a CD Changer with the following features:
Touchscreen control
Satellite Navigation
Wi-Fi
Digital TV
3G Datacard
Programmable Automotive Power Supply
Ruggedised hard drive
DVD Player
Bluetooth
I've got my entire CD collection on it, the 3G card means it is permanently connected to the internet, it runs Win XP in the background so you can run any application. The wi-fi connection syncs to my home PC when I'm in range and with the programmable power supply I don't need to worry about the car being 'live' with the key in.
The cost is ?1500 (which is a lot less than the Media Package Option on the E60). All you need is +12V, +12V ignition, Gnd and the iPod connection.
I'd be interested to hear your comments, suggestions, etc good or bad.

Looks very nice.... but 
I would highly recommend building a version that has an RF output which will hook up to the 3rd party i-drive video input, so the screen is displayed on the i-drive and not a big sticky out touch screen monitor. As good as systems like this are, I don't want to ruin my interior with a screen like that sticking out. I would want the display on the i-drive (and obviously much larger writing so it's readable) with a wireless (not infra red) remote control.
It's a very nice in-car PC, but it's the big touch screen monitor that puts me off. This unit may already have an RF output - but the software would need to be altered so that the resolution can be seen on a low-res RF input. To be honest, I think even the size on the touchscreen monitor looks far too small.

no I mean I am really amazed by your creativeness and all that you put in your car. Do you think somehow the Tomtom 700Go can be built in or at least have its image on a tft. I know that a PDA can be "chanelled" through a vga-CF card to a tft or lcd screen but I have standealone and perfect nav already.thx.

The PC sits under the passenger seat and since it runs Win XP, you can put any software you like on it. I'm using Destinator 3 as the Nav package (even though my e60 has Nav).
The screen and its user interface has been designed to be easy to use and not to distract you when you're driving.
It has big icons on the front that link to your programmes.
I put Nav on as a standard fit for customers that do not have it already but it is not essential.
I just like the idea of having all my CD music on it, sync with my home/office pc and be connected to the www

Certainly looks like a good option for cars less equipped, say without NAV, MP3 capability, TV, etc. By "needs iPOd connection" I assume you mean Aux Input?
