I noticed BSW sells a subwoofer system that mounts to the top of the trunk for the e39, as well as other late model BMWs. Refraining from asking a silly question like "would this fit in an e60," I would like to know if anyone knows of any systems like this made for our cars. I am looking to upgrade the speakers in the car, and would prefer to impact my trunk space as little as possible. Not a fan of a box in the back of the trunk, nor in the wheel wells (had both of these in previous vehicles).

I'm in a 08 535i Sport, if that will help.

Here's the BSW system I'm talking about:

I created a box similar to the BSW for a shallow mount sub but I ran into a problem...which I figured it was going to happen but decided to build anyways. Such box makes the trunk pretty useless to anything that has any height...like a big stroller in my case I've since built a very shallow box that looks pretty nice and mounted it to the back of the seat (don't have folding seats in my 550). Within the next few weeks I think I going to take another shot at recreating a BSW like box but angled. It will basically look like a truck box mounted under the rear shelf. That will allow me to fit taller items in the trunk...at least near the trunk opening which is more than enough for me.

you can always build you own box similar to the BSW box, I don't think it would be very difficult.

Yeah, that was something I was considering as well. The angled box seems like an good idea though.

And thank you for mentioning the stroller. The wife would have had some words for me if the stroller could no longer fit...

I was looking for a pre-made option, but that will probably be the end result.

You would not have to remove that stealth box to get to your spare tire, there is clearance. They are a bit pricey though. Here is what I have done https://5series.net/forums/topic/109...1#entry1303904
How often do you need to get to your spare though really? My setup cost me around $600
