So heres the deal....a couple months ago I went ahead and retrofitted Euro Spec Xenons onto my car. Previously I had LCI Halogens with 55W HID's in them. I'm starting to REALLY miss the light output onto the road.

Currently, I have some generic 6000K D1S bulbs in my low beams. While I am aware that spending 300 dollars on bulbs will yield me better light output I was curious as to whether there was some sort of aftermarket solution.

My goal is to get the same brightness on the road at the 6000K temp as my 55W setup yielded.

Ehh... it's probably because there really isn't a good solution. The only thing that comes to mind is to overdrive the ballast, but I don't know how tolerable these are to handle the extra load. I have read about other brands of ballasts being overdriven, basically boosted up, but it's obviously at the expense of reducing the life of the hardware.

Personally this is another one of those what I would consider to be more trouble than its worth type of endeavor. At the end of the day, you might end up busting your ballast(s), kill your bulbs, and just end up being unnecessary expenditure.

Auchtunge60 has used aftermarket HIDS which he said works well and are obviously a lot cheaper than the 300+ you mention.

I can just picture it now. A post saying my headlighs caught fire LOL. J/K good luck gotta love that lci

How about looking at a brand of bulbs that has been proved to be brighter than competition for the OEM setup ?

I am running 6000k on my M and they are not something I am very happy about as far as the light on the streets go. I guess I paid like 30 or 40 bucks for it but the color is SWEET.

That's really marginal improvement at best. Going back down to 4300K would help of course.

I will definitely not be overdriving my ballasts. As for the trouble...I can't see it becoming too complicated...I might have to snip some wires and drill some holes..but in the end I'll light up the road again!

Agreed...in fact my 4300K stockers were close to the brightness of my 55w 6000K aftermarket HIDs. The problem is...they are ugly!

Well, if you are satisfied with 4300K's lumen output, you could get Osram's CBI bulbs. They have the appearance of 6000K while output is closer to 4300K.

The only thing is they're expensive bulbs. If my memory serves me correctly, they're $200 for a set. And they are pretty scarce as well.
