Wheels with larger offsets (like on xi / all-wheel drive) might be more susceptible because the inner portion of the rim is largely unsupported. And super-low profile tires look great but leave little protection for rim and tire against the road monsters waiting to eat them

I've decided to go with OZ or BBS anyway, so Breytons are out of question. Been hunting e46fanatics' classifieds for a while, but nice 18's are tough to come by at a decent bargain these days... apparently... anyway, I appreciate the information, everyone. I got enough info to know that in my case, Breytons won't work. For someone who is maybe a gentler driver, they're great, I'm sure. But I really don't feel like dealing with bent/cracked rims over the winter. Actually, thinking about just turning my BBS CKs into winter wheels with some taller sidewalls and all-season tires, but they will collect a lot of snow/sleet/ice on the barrels, which is something I would like to avoid. Ideally, I'd get a set of OZ Superturismos in white, but they have crappy offsets and I don't want to run spacers... grrr... I'll find something sooner or later

I had some BBS forged wheels...that bent in a pothold. Had to have two wheels repaired after that incident. As stated above, you are at the mercy of the roads around you. Unfortunately, in Minnesota we have some monstrous potholes that arrive in spring & I've replaced 4 wheels (2 BBS, 2 BMW stock 18's) in the past 6 years.

Thanks Justin. I'm not getting them. I'm hunting for some used OZs or BBSs instead.

I had OZs on my Infiniti M45 as winter wheels for 3 winter seasons. No bends or cracks. They held up great and were 18s.

I run a plus sized sidewalk on my E60 in the winter: 245/45/18 instead of the standard 245/40/18. Have had no problems with that setup
