Fellow members,

I am new to the BMW world, but have started researching nearly everything related to my E60. My iDrive says that in about 2000 miles, it's time to replace my rear brakes. My Bimmer currently has BMW rotors and BMW pads. My commute is roughly city driving with stop and go traffic. Maybe about 30-50 miles per day. I haven't even take this beauty over 60mph yet! I would like to use non-BMW rotors and pads.

1) I'm torn between buying Pagid (from BavAuto.com), Wagner (from my local O'Reilys), or finding some Axxis Deluxe pads.

Anyone care to chime in? Through most of my research, I see that a lot of people like the Axxis Deluxe pads.

I would not replace BMW brakes with anything else. There are better brakes out there but trust me there are not cheaper. You get what You paid for. Keep that in mind.

if i am not mistaken, pagid is the factory compound in bmw pads. i just don't think that aftermarket pads have the same feel/performance that the factory pads do. a lot of people go with these wild brake pad and rotor setups for everyday driving. if you are not racing, these type of brakes are not worth it. you would have to be really aggressive on factory brakes to get them to a point that they are not as effective as racing typr pads/rotors.

I'd recommend that you try ATE or Zimmerman for the brake discs, and ATE, Textar or Mintex for the brake pads.

The BMW brake caliper is stamped with the ATE logo, just like a lot of the European cars on the road today. I don't see much sense in paying a 30-50% premium for the ATE disc or pad stuck in a BMW box. I used ATE brake pads & rotors just last week on a friend's E38 and he has no complaints and he's very particular about things. I've read very good things about Mintex, the pricing is hard to beat, and I shall most likely use them myself when I do my own brakes.

Try these sites for really good service and pricing:

http://www.autohausaz.com (free shipping on orders above $50)

http://www.pelicanparts.com These guys will sell genuine BMW parts if you decide to go that route. I've never used them, but other members have had good luck with them.

You can also try Garry Romani at BMW Newport for the BMW branded parts.

Good luck.

Going from OEM to Axxis Deluxe is  You will regret it. I would go with Axxis ULT or Stoptech Pads. Pagid if u got the $$ and they are very similar to OEM.
