Recieved an error that brake fluid is low and braking efficiency is reduced and to stop carefully.

I checked an iDrive says I'm due for brakes in about 5K miles. I planned on getting new brakes regardless but should I add fluid in the meantime between the change?

Yes - The fluid in the reservoir is too low.
