its time for my brake fluid to be changed, i don't go to the Stealership for most parts, however they recommended I use synthetic brake fluid (runs about 52$)
but i also heard just anything DOT 4 synthetic or not is fine

care to shed some knowledge on this

thanks!

52? crazy talk. Yes DOT 4 or better. Some to most of us who change use ATE Blue/Yellow, You can use name brand DOT 4 from auto store. The ATE stuff isnt more than 30 for a litre. Name brand is way way less than that. You'll need 1+ liters.

$52! Yikes!

Try Pentosin DOT4 LV (low viscosity). It runs about $10/liter. I needed a bit less than a liter for my 2006 530i.

thanks guys

ya Canada dealer, they try to screw you here all the time, we pay a lot more for a lot of the same stuff in canada can't quite figure out why still.

So just some Pentosin DOT4 LV sounds good im going to buy it online and that way I can't get charged the ridiculous fee for it.

online its like 12$ i think which is awesome

Also need some spark plugs, is there a specific model number brand you recommend that will fit in my 2004 530i

might as well order that at the same time in the same shipment

OH and my micro filter lol that's almost due according the comupter

Why are there so many cheapskates who obviously cannot afford upkeep on a modern bmw? 52 bucks--if that is so outrageous to you to use the reccomended brake fluid than do you really think you should be driving a bmw?

Always shocks me how cheap people are. Its your cars but why get a car if you cannot afford it-beats me

i thought you were going to play nice now.
does it make you feel all good inside knowing that you're paying 10x as much for the same fluid, just because you bought it at some fancy dealer?

i dont care how much a car costs or how much i make, but $52 for brake fluid is ridiculous, when it is essentially the same stuff available in the stores.
my local dealer charges $4.50 a bottle(355ml). i only need 2 for bleeding brakes.

Try http://www.autohausaz.com . They ship internationally and have really good prices. I just bought two cabin air filters (charcoal) from them for $36. They carry the Pentosin, too.

For regular driving, any good brand DOT4 brake fluid is all you need. You pay extra for added formulation (higher boiling point, coloring) which is only needed for track use and aggressive driving. Do not mix DOT3, DOT4, or DOT5; they have different chemical properties and are not compatible.
