Sprayed all the rotors real good with brake cleaner installed the new pads. took about an hour and a half to do all 4 and i do not have a lift. Then went for a drive to bed the new pads in. A few 60 to 0 mph heavy stops with out engaging abs with cool down time inbetween each and a few 30-0 mph stops. Total of about 10 hard braking. Make sure you dont over heat the rotors give it at leat a min or two btween tge 60mph stops. Then went to an Indy to have them exchange/bleed my brakes $80. My car stops better then it has ever stopped. Car has 70k on it now. Total about 200 bucks ! I say do it ur self !!!!
This is something I've thought about. OP is probably under the wear limit as prescribe by BMW. The question is weather BMW wear limits are conservative or not. If they are, the rotors should be tested for runout and if there is any warping.

One other consideration. Do you want to be driving around on the original rotors at say 130k or some lengthy interval waiting for the second pads to wear out.

Any other thought from forum members on this?

i drove my e39 with 180k on orginal rotors and it stopped like a champ. i dont think there is a need a change rotors every time u change pads.but thats my opinion. Im a very heavy braker pads last me about 25-35k miles. so i would be going threw alot of rotors

Question: I have 86,000 miles on the clock and the I drive says 9000 miles on the front and 18,000 miles on the rear. I checked the pads this weekend and the front measure 4 mm and the rear are at 2 mm. When does the I drive start counting down faster? I thought the minimumm depth was 2 mm for these cars. I am trying to get free brakes before my extended maintenace service expires in April, 2013.

Shoot, if you know anyone in Md., you can stop by, and kick me some cash and we can do them together. Other than a freaking rotor secure bolt that seized, the entire job would have taken me 2 hours tops! You can the parts (LESS DUST) from Trinity, they are great.

If i have to pay for the parts I will definetly get something besides OE parts and do it myself. At this point I am still trying to get all I can out of BMW.

On mine, rotors are thin, I mean when I move my finger, there is alot of lift that could be felt from rotor to the ending. It needs to be replaced I guess, and Slotted aftermarkets are better? any links would be great. I have 530d 2003/11

You can ask them to just change them.

I don't have the break down in front of me at the moment, but the last time I was in for service I requested a quote for my 04 545i (95K miles on the Odometer) and they quoted me $1600. Needless to say I am going to an Indy shop. I am also on Central Jersey if anyone has any recommendations.

your lucky i got $1800 quote. I went with a local shop, and just paid for labor while i purchased my own parts from researching on this forum.

amazon.com has BMW Genuine Front Brake Pads for E60 5 Series - 525i N52 SEDAN (2004 - 2006), 530i SEDAN (2002 - 2007) at $124.59+shipping

& the BMW Genuine Rear Brake Pads for E60 E61 5 Series - 525i 525xi 530i 530xi at $119.94+shipping

I had R1 Concepts BLANK rotors (E-Line OE Replacement Rotors) with Hawks HPS pads w/ new sensors. It squeaks during cold & when wet (car wash) but goes away after warming up. I get good amount of brake dust, but not excessive. After about 20-25k miles, i needed to change out the pads. Keeping the rotors, but just changing pads.

Your post made me think about debating between BMW oem pads, or Hawks HPS pads.
