My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
Hey All,
I got my replacement BMW hubcaps from the TireRack for my ASA wheels (thanks for advising me to ask). Short of pulling the wheels, I've been wondering how to get the old ones out without scraping up the paint on the wheel. Some here suggested simply sacrificing the old by drilling and inserting a hook; others suggested a suction cup.
I just now approached mine with a thin, flexible-blade putty knife. Pried it out with some care, but not much force. For the remaining three, I got two fine flat-tipped screwdrivers. Used the first to pry it up a bit, and the second to grab hold under the raised lip. That worked much better and I don't think there was any paint raised.
The BMW-stickered variety are built just like the ones you are removing, so don't fret, as I did, thinking that the ASA ones might be more complex or have deeper grips. Or, you could just drill or smash 'em, they are all plastic.
Amazing difference that blue and white roundel makes down there...
Cheers,
Ray Hull
