Just got my 2008-2 Navigation DVD and was playing around with it and noticed that things have changed a bit in the POI section atleast. The categories and names have changed a bit. However the biggest change I noticed was in the Search page. You now see more Search fields instead of just the Name and Distance. These fields are customised depending on what POI you select e.g. in the Hotels you can select Stars, or Price range etc.

However one of the biggest issues I've noticed with the disc so far is that the POIs dont seem to display icons on the map!! Maybe I need some more time to get it to work but the normal way of icon display and hide didn't make any difference.

OK as a follow-up everything is fine in the new 2008-2 Europe disc. BMW have now changed things quite a bit and you get a lot more information on the discs themselves. I just tried everything is quite a haste earlier and so my initial message was not accurate. However UK folk will still have to put up with 5 char postcodes from BMW. Ofcourse you always have options to get the 7 char postcode search if you want to.

Hi Bruce how do you get the 7 character post code search? Is it a similar way to adding speed cameras?

Cheers.

No new countries are added to this at all. But there is a lot of updates and information added. The size of the data on this DVD has doubled with this release.

I didn't realize they were able to add these types of features via the NavTeq disc -- I thought Progman had to be updated to take advantage of additional data available on the disc.

I guess I'm impressed!

Actually the more I study this the more I realise how many things you can actually put / change on the screens simply by changing the parameters in the configuration file. There is a lot of functionality but because of the limited iDrive interface some of the values are defaulted. BMW have now chosen to add more information to the POIs too, so you can click on the POI to get more information. You can infact add your own Search Fields and definitions too and that will narrow your search results even more. It would be interesting to see how the 2008-2 works on the cars where the PROGMAN has not been updated for the Search screen itself.

If we had access to the OS like the older High Navigation system guys have then we would have been able to see what else our systems were capable of doing instead of simply waiting for BMW to reveal things to us.

Hi, I'm just a day in to my car and trawling the forum.

With the config in my sig, will I have to have the Progman updated to use the 2008 DVD?

Cheers

Alan

Alan, you shouldn't need to but it would be interesting to see how an older car behaves to a new Navigation DVD that is both Dual Layer and has a lot of more Search fields - which cannot be accessed on the older cars.

Thanks for the quick reply Bruce.

Any idea how much an update costs?

I have 2 weeks left on the Warranty, I read somewhere (cant remember where) tips to get software updated under warranty!

Cheers

Alan
