I have a black 530i and am in the market for some rims. I see alot of nice looking black rims around but have reservations about putting them on my car 'cuz they tend to blend in w/ the car's color and darkness of the rotor & caliper, etc... I guess they would hide caliper dust huh?

Are black rims like the following a fad or will they go the way of the spinner?

MRR Design GT1 Black with Machined Lip

K2 Designs - K2523 Black w/Polished Lip

Also, what about the staggered look? They look good (aggressive) but would you do it on car you use as a daily driver? I can imagine that no tire rotation will result in a significant reduction in tire life.

Thanks for any input!

Q: Are black rims like the following a fad or will they go the way of the spinner?
IMHO: Since you're comparing black wheels to "spinner"... Don't do black, you already have negative preception about it. I had both silver and black, have have gotten bored with both color... I ended up switching them around and round and round

Q: what about the staggered look?
IMHO: My 545i came stock staggered and it is my daily driver, I'm not too concerned about reduction in tire life... If I was, I would be driving a conservative brand such as Honda or Toyota.

a very good number of members here, including myself, are running a staggered set-up. if you dont want it, maybe you could just put spacers in the rear to make it look staggered if that's what youre looking for. about black wheels, many members are running black on black as well. off the top of my head some are imsortofabigdeal, knightcom, freedom, eurocarfan, hollywoodtrash, and others. but i agree with freedom that if you have a negative perception about it already, dont go for it. maybe as another option you could just go for a dark color of wheels, like black chrome or shadow chrome if you dont want black. just a suggestion.

If you don't go staggered, don't get wheels at all, wouldn't be worth it.

Thanks for the feedback. I wouldn't say that I have a negative perception of black on black, I'm just still warming up to it. Perhaps the "spinner" analogy was a bad one to use. I'm just wondering in another year or two if they are going to be pass?? I guess no one can predict that one huh?

Are a number of members running the same black rims? The Radenergie R10 that freed0m has are pretty nice!

In my opinion, don't get black wheels but get something like graphite or black chrome. I had ordered my R10s in black but they came looking more like dark charcoal. I then had them refinished when I switched them from my 545 to my M5 and got them lighter. Now they're more like a graphite color and I like them a lot.

Back to your question if they're a fad. I think they are but I also think personality has a lot to do with how long you like them. Some people just get bored quicker than others regardless of what color the wheels are...right Freed0m??? haha The fad might still be in style but you might change your mind sooner.

BTW, here's a not so great picture of my car but at least you can see what I mean by the color.

oh my... looks so sexy and shiny...

i like seeing a contrast between the car itself and the wheels, even if its just a different, but noticeable, shade of the same color. just my opinion.

Looks sharp if you ask me. I have the same wheels on order and should have them any day now.
