At least in the US, BMW has been putting chrome grills on all E60 models since 2006. So your logic is flawed.
Same worldwide. 6+ cyl. = chrome grills.

i have a 2006 titanium silver e60. it wasn't till the fob key was introduced that all e60s came with OEM chrome grills. so i got bored of the chrome and black slots and then switched to wide chrome grills, they aren't OEM but i like the look better. i thought about carbon and black grills, but doesnt match the car much. i have tinted windows as well but no shadow line, so for sure black grills would look funny.

so i'm for chrome grills, better yet wide chrome grills. from my avatar you can kind of see the grills

sorry i don't have any other pictures.

IMO, Black will make the car look sportier and fierce looking while a chrome will make it look classy. Depends on the look you are going for.
+1 It all comes down to personal preference and what look you're going for

i like mine to paint match with the car color (the outer rims of the grill) and the grill to be black. you can always go carbon fiber.
but its based on your preference.

If you are getting chrome grills, get OEM. The eBay stuff looks like they are going to pop out. Looks cheap IMO.

Black looks great with a black car. Don't know with a silver.
