I'm not saying your guy is bad, just sharing my POV
And I'm not even "friends" with him - as a matter of fact, we've had our differences in the past. I just try to stay objective and give credit where it is due.

Michael knows his shit - proven. Bet you at least 100 people from this forum can say he helped them where others hesitated!

However, I do know he's biased towards the E39 and isn't fond of the E60 so I'll definitely trust yall's knowledge on this one!

I run 245/40/19 in the front and 275/35/19 on the rear on the style 166 (odd sizes)
And have ZERO issues, I know my speedometer might be off by 3% but I don't care since I have 2 times the protection a person would have running 245/35 and 275/30 's.
I care about my wheels more and hence prefer the protection more than anything.
The dude you go to needs to retire now (lol)

I was just told by my "BMW guy" (family friend and private bmw mechanic) that changing wheel sizes is not advised for the E60 because the size of the wheels is stored in ROM in the car's computer when its at the factory and that its impossible to override. He warned me that my speedometer and odometer could be seriously effected and that the computer could start throwing out tons of error codes and that its not worth it. He said that the E39 didn't have this problem (he's partial to the E39 still).
I've searched the forums and came up empty handed soooo...
I've noticed that all of the members here who's cars didn't come stock with style 166's magically have them on their cars and don't complain about errors. Is it just a simple trip to the dealer to reset it? Or is the fact my car is old, from 03/2004 with 16" wheels, the problem?

This is a 1st.
If this is so then that mean not just E60 car can not change it is all BMW cars
I have had 4 BMW cars and all have change wheels to bigger 1s and 2 inch in size and never had a error code.
also some of my friends change wheels and was court speeding and the speedo and the police reading were the 99% same.
The think to what out for is if you have a wheels which is 1cm bigger or smaller than the stock then it will be diffrent to speed
check out this website for ref
