I have a black 07 530i and it has the chrome window trim.

I am sure there are a bunch of people who have gotten rid of it.

What are my options and what is the cost associated with each option?

1) Shadowline trim parts from the dealer - approx. 300$ ??? (Other members please correct, this is an estimation)
2) Painting the current trim - approx. 20-30$ for the paint and masking tape, wetsand paper, isopropyl alcohol for cleaning
3) Black vinyl tape over the current trim - approx. 40-50$ ???

Thanks!

As far as quality, appearance, and durability...what is the best option of those 3?

Well, for sure it would be the OEM black trim. I chose that option.

Well this might be an option for you. I just ordered shadowline trim from my dealer and i am going to have it installed. I had taken the top chrome pieces and painted them black but left the bottom chrome. Once i get the chrome removed and my shadowline put on, i had planned to sand the chrome ones down and paint them. I would be willing to sell them to you for $50 dollars. heres a picture of my car right now with the half and half look. i only painted the tops because i was getting frustrated with the bottom ones. since the bottom ones will be removed they will be easy to paint and then i could ship them to you.

Just in case you were curious of my work. I have sold 2 or 3 gloss black grilles to members who were satisfied. I have painted my own tails, grilles, and obviously painted my chrome trim.

Prime and paint is the better & cheap way to go. It's really easy.

I just ordered the shadowline from Gary and installed it in a couple of hours using the forum's DIY. Worked for me. I guess it's all about how much time/hassle you're willing to invest vs. the cost, as the results are about the same.

I have the chrome trim (non-sport) and I actually think it looks good, but the problem I have is that the trim is coming up on the driver's side door. You can push it down temporarily, but it comes back up. Is there a way to fix this?
