The d?namic stabilization control measures the slide and brake separately each wheel, it works as before.

The ESP remains, sure.

Has anyone experienced any humming with this mod? I noticed in your write-up that you didn't mention use of a feeler gage to measure the lash after the install, which is critical. If you have any uneven wear, the gears will hum and there is no way to get rid of it besides replacing it.

But if you are brave enough, make sure you tighten all the bolts that hold the ring in a sequential manner at a few lbs. of torque at a time so the gear sits flush. I have not replaced the rear end gears on an E60, but I have on other cars and this is crucial to avoiding humming, and worse, metal shavings from uneven wear.

of course the bolts were tightened at a sequence and not one by one by max torque, the mechanic had done it before:-) No humming whatsoever. I will drain the oil in couple of weeks and see if there are any stuff in it, but im sure its ok:-)

The quaife doesnt include final drive, its only the middle part, so no change, but the automatic 3.38 is very sufficent for my V8:-)

Its well worth it, i have learned to drive my car again, and the next car will have it for the first thing. I will calculate the price right in the car price, because without the diff a BMW is crippled, and only when overtaking i can use the power. The M5 is not an option, the insurance and the fuel consumption doesnt cut it for me, because in here we have a speed limit and mostly i drive in traffic jam and my usual daily routines. But sometimes i still want a bit sporty ride, so all things in one, but with reasonable pricetag. Yes i know that SMG or manual would be nicer, but i love the 6 spd automatic. Maybe the next car will be LCI 550iA with M packet and SMG, and ofcourse the quaife:-) But with current economical state and the new 5er coming, the 545iA is the optimal choice for almost sporty daily ride:-) (thank god for the low fuel prices for now, we have had almost 30% decrease in price in last half year)

So is it only the M5 that has a LSD or do the M sports (like mine) have it also

Ofcourse not, only the M series have it for now (and its LSD, not ATB like quaife, i have heard that many of the M series owners replace the original LSD with quaife when the original clutch wears out, quaife is torsen, and gets a lifetime warranty, so practically the only wear is just normal mechanical wear. And after all its cheaper then the original M diff. BMW doesnt provide clutch separately AFAIK).
