Where can I get one online or pickup in SoCal? Do independents have better deals on them?

+1000 I got my new battery from a member who was selling it. Don't bother to look online, no one can ship you a battery - it's illegal I think, hazardous materials

Do you guys have a preferred aftermarket brand? The reason I want OEM is because the current one is the original. It's stamped 42 05 which means it's just over 5 years. To me that's a pretty good run for a car battery especailly for a car with alot of electronics in it. Aside from the condition indicator being black instead of green, it's still going strong. (at least it starts the car up no problem....knock on wood... )

Who makes the OEM battery anyway?

I purchased a new battery from BatteriesPlus, and they installed the new one and took the old. Simple, easy, and very successful.

Good luck,
Randy...

On Oct 19, 2009, I paid $222.09 out the door (battery, tax, install & disposal).
