Hi guys
Im dying to mod my 535d
So I have decided to upgrade the wheels from the 18" M sport to the 172's
Found a set of 4 "brand new" on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/19-E60-SPORT-ALLOY-WHEELS-BMW-E39-SEDAN-TYRES-/140463444966?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Trims_Car_Rims_ET&hash=item20b44613e6with tyres for £829?
Im assuming these are the cheap copies
Any suggestions for the UK?
My 18"s are run flats will I lose ride quality on 19" normal tyres?

Thanks

Have a look at this site BMAUTOSPORT. They sell excellent quality replica alloys as well as refurbished genuine BMW items. You do need to be careful with replicas to ensure the the centre bore is the correct size (72.6mm) to avoid unwanted vibrations when they are on the car. You don't mention if you have an E60 saloon or E61 touring. With the E61 you need to look at the offsets closely because there are clearance issues with the standard M172 offsets, and spacers would be required.

I need some advice too. Have a European 535D from 9/2007 with M-kit and the 18" 135M alloy wheels. Thinking of adding a set of 184M 18" which comes from an M5 and worried there might be an issue with the offset? Anyone in the know who can steer me right - urgently?

I checked realoem for my existing 135M wheels: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...13&hg=36&fg=15

Here, a.o., it mentions 8JX18 ET:20

When I search for the 184M for my 535D, then I get the following: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...11&hg=36&fg=15

Here it also mentions 8JX18 ET:20

When I then search for the 184M for an M5 I get: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...12&hg=36&fg=15

and here it unfortunately mentions 8JX18 ET: 14

Now I don't exactly know what the ET is, but I gather it has to do with the offset. So can I fit a set of the M5 wheels on my car without any problems and if yes, what do I need in terms of spacers? (part number::?)

Just found the following:

http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/...e-sizes-t7759/

Paraphrasing the thread:

All ET/OFFSET is still dependent on tyre and wheel size so bear this in mind if you are trying to fit wheels from one model to a different model, also if the car is lowered then you may have issues with rubbing/non fitment due to fouling. The higher the ET number the more the wheel will sit inside the wheel arch.

5 Series E60/61 = PCD 5x120 centre bore 72.5mm and M12x1.5 bolt thread. ET 15-32
5 Series E60 M5 (Saloon) = PCD 5x120, centre bore 72.5mm and M12x1.5 bolt thread. ET 12-32
5 Series E61 M5 (Touring) = PCD 5x120, centre bore 72.5mm and M12x1.5 bolt thread. ET 12-32
6 Series E63/64 = PCD 5x120, centre bore 72.5mm and M12x1.5 bolt thread. ET 14-20
6 Series E63/64 M6 = PCD 5x120, centre bore 72.5mm and M12x1.5 bolt thread. ET 12-20
-------------------

The wheels I am looking at are 5x120 ET 14 so must come from an M6 I gather. Can I get fex a 6mm spacer to take it from 14 to 20 or does it not work that way?

I also checked http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg4.html

where I learned that for my specific winterwheel combo, "The edge of the new tyre will be 6mm further away from the inside of the wheel well and suspension components, and 6mm further out from the edge of the bodywork."

HM, now I am a bit wiser and it indeed doesn't look like I need a spacer, on the contrary! So question then is whether above matters at all or will be just fine?

It seems the m5 wheel is part number 36 11 2 282 990 with ET 14 and the one fitting my car is part number 36 11 2 282 991 with ET 20. I take it that since BMW goes through the trouble of making two different wheels, I'd better go through the trouble of getting the wheel custom made for my car. It also comes as a set if 4 wheels, complete with tyres part number 36 11 0 398 755.
