Hi all,

I'm curious about the benefits of the OE Sport Suspension. I'm currently thinking about buying the OE Sport Shocks/springs off of a very reputable forum member. Aside from the extra .7" drop, are there any other added benefits- firmer ride, better handling?

I'm also going to purchase the ACS or H&R front/rear sways. My overall goal is to improve the handling of the car- looks are second as I don't want to lower the car too much (dont want to deal with the hassle of scraping the front of the mtech kit).

Thanks for any insight into this matter,
Mike

Your stated goals will be achieved , and the drop is insignificant . It's not a bone jarring ride just firm and very much "in control" .You'll also find it much better in the twisties .............. you'll see why most enthusiasts want the sport package . Why not just take a test drive at your dealer to see if you like it... Good luck

Cheers

OE Sport will give better handling for sure and the ride will still be comfortable. Changing the sways will make a big improvement in handling also (maybe more than the sport springs and struts).

yep.. i went from a 2004 530 non-sport to a 2005 530 sport and i love it. the ride is a little firmer but it handles so much better on the turns. there's also much less body roll so you feel the car sticking to the road, not floating on it.

i wouldnt go back to a regular suspension now that i know what a sport suspension is.... so if you can upgrade yours then do so.

First off, thanks for all the replies so far. It seems that the OE Sport Struts do offer some added benefits besides looks.

I was contemplating a Koni shocks/Eibach or H&R spring combo or just using the OE Sports pkg struts. The OE seems to give slightly better handling w/o sacrificing ride.

So I'm probably just gonna go with the OE Sport struts. I'm sure the Aftermarket setup is better at handling- I was just concerned about the ride and dropping it too much.

Thanks again,
mike

Hi Mike,

I've got OE sport shocks now, and I'm contemplating about going the H&R/Bilstein combo. However this will be too harsh for your needs. The Koni/Eibach combo will provide you with better handling as well as better looks.

Just my 2cents.

go with coilovers like Bilstein or KW. Height and stiffness adjustable. Handling is really fun, even on 20s. pm r1racer for best deals.

I don't think my H&R/Koni combo is that harsh, but if there is any concern I would recommend Eibach also. I had Eibach/Koni on an E46 330i and really loved it -- probably more the difference in the car, but I always thought it was perfect. The E60 OE sport suspension was too "floaty" for me (better than non-sport but I really didn't care for it). However, I like suspensions tighter than most and take my car to the track sometimes.

Koni's are great. In fact thinking about it here has just inspired me to go out to the garage and finish the Koni install on my 1969 GTO (did the fronts last fall and haven't gotten around to the rears).
