I wonder how this fact will impact on BMW wheels.

They claim that the aluminun prices rose too fast.

BBS did make a lot of the OEM wheels.

For those who know any German the news link is here.

Link to BBS here.

Yep, true. We had a link to the topic here before. They actually already filed for insolvency on 6th Feb.

There actually was a deal to save them on the table, also supported by all car manufacturers that use them and most of the banks.
Only one bank (rumoured to be an american investment bank) let the bubble burst. Wouldn't surprise me if they already had someone lined up to sort of take over

a tirerack representative and a bbs usa exectutive said on 6speedonline that it just means bbs germany is restructuring due to increased cost, level of competition, and changing market trends. bbs japan will continue to manufacture forged wheels and run its motorsports division. bbs usa will continue to function as a distributor.

don't seem like anything to worry about, unless something new came up...?

I could see alot of european wheels manufacturers could be in trouble with all the competition from China. I mean if they buy the same machining equipment and can meet the same standards like TUV and such, with much lower pricing, who would'nt buy from them?

For the low end market, sure. All the replica 166 and 167 wheels ppl are buying on this forum are most likely made in either China or Taiwan.

BTW, most of the best forged wheels on the market are made in Japan (BBS LM, RGR, RS-GT, Work, Volk, RAC Monolite, Champion Motorsport, etc).
