Obviously, it's all personal taste, but....
That wouldn't work for me. To me, that finish just looks like it's dirty. When you commibine them with the fact that 18's just aren't big enough to make any visual impact on the e60, it doesn't work for me at all. Yep, they may be easier to clean, but that's about it. I just wouldn't spend any $$ on my car that wouldn't do much to change the appearance. Now, if you have a non-sport car, maybe these would do you some good, as those OE wheels are hideous.
Hey, just my .02...

Thank you for your thoughts. I am happy with 18" wheels. I don't like the negative effects of over-sized wheels--although 19" wheels are not be too bad.

And, yes, the dark look is what I am wrestling with. I am having trouble figuring out how dark they really are. If they look like the pictures imply, then I am sure I would like them.

My goal in getting the wheels is more performance than looks. I want something that looks good, whether it dramatically changes the appearance of the car or not, and that, at the same time, provides a significant unsprung weight savings (both are necessary conditions). The combination of the RGR's (8's F and 10's R) and Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's yields about a 125 lb. sprung-weight equivalent weight savings--which translates into about 13 flywheel equivalent HP. Also, I am not interested in tires larger than 18" because they would, in effect, increase my rear-end ratio numerically.

Regardless, thank you again for your input. I want to hear opinions like yours.

Just a thought, if the unsprung weight thing is that important to you--and I must say again that I don't understand this fascination with it on a two ton sedan--then why not go with the 19" BBS LM? It is one of the most beautiful, light alloys ever made, (unfortunately at a dear price). BTW, your rear end ratio should in theory not change, as your rolling radius should be extremely close to OE with the right wheel and tire. Anyway, just a thought. I guess there have just been so many times that I have spent big $$ thinking there was some wheel and tire package that was going to be just right, and in the end I was disappointed. Let's face it, the wheel deal is primarily for cosmetics; I guess it's like having cosmetic surgery and not getting them (it?) big (small?) enough....Good luck.

I too don't understand the unsprung weight thing on a heavy 4 door sedan. I do, however understand it on a sportscar. This just doesn't make sense to me. As someone said here already, purchasing wheels for these cars is for the most part a cosmetic decision. If anyone can shed more light on this, maybe I'll get it. I'm not knocking anyone. I'm just trying to understand a little better.

Hi All:

I have decided on the BBS RGR wheels for my silver gray 545i--specificially, 18 X 8.5 fronts and 18 X 10 rears. I am trying to decide whether to get the Black Diamond or Bright Silver finish. As mentioned, my car is silver gray. I am looking for opinions particularly concerning the look of the Black Diamond finish in general (i.e., I know what the bright silver finish looks like) and how it would look with my silver gray paint.? To my knowledge, I have never seen the black diamond finish. Also, I would appreciated it if someone could direct me to some photos of the black diamond finish on his or her E60. Please post the pics here if you want. One advantage of the black diamond finish is that the wheels are in stock.

Sedan performance is more imortant to some than others. Sedan looks are more imortant to some than others. I am going for both with the emphasis on performance. Gaining the 13 HP equivalent mentioned above is part of my overall plan to increase my 545i's HP equivalent. Some people like fast sedans, while some don't. I like faster sedans and sports cars. I'll look up the 19" BBS LM, but I don't want my wheels to weigh much more than 20 lbs., and I don't like having to buy lower profile tires to keep my rear end ratio the same. But, I believe that a small change in profile should not alter the ride quality too much and probably would improve the handling, although I don't need for the car to handle any better. I just don't like taking the chance of altering the ride too much.

I guess there have just been so many times that I have spent big $$ thinking there was some wheel and tire package that was going to be just right, and in the end I was disappointed. I am pretty good at knowing what I want to accompish and figuring out how to get there. So, I won't be disappointed. I'm still just concerned about the Black Diamonds being too black. I agree that, to many. the "wheel deal" is primarily about cosmetics. For me, its about performance and cosmetics with emphasis on performance. And, I agree that sometimes less is more and more is less.

Performance is important to me. And, it is hard to increase equivalent HP on the 545i, but every little bit helps. The little bits I have done so far include a B&B exhaust and a Dinan throttle body--which together increase flywheel HP about 20 HP. Adding the increase from unsprung weight savings from wheels/tires adds about another 13 HP--yielding about 33 HP total. Dinan is supposed to be offering more performance parts at the end of september. I will be adding some, or all, of them. I am hoping to end up with the equivalent of about 390 HP--but at least 375 HP. Keep in mind that a 10 lb. HP increase generally reduces 1/4 mile times by about .1 sec. If interested, then you might want to check this thread out--Mind Candy ... And, keep in mind that purchasing wheels/tires is not a purely cosmetic issue for many. Thank you for your thoughts.

I get it Donv. Your car is basically a sleeper. That's cool. Any unknowing E55 driver would be unpleasantly surprised running with you. All the best and thanks for shedding more light on this topic.

They are indeed gorgeous, but they don't fit into my concept---too heavy and wrong size. If I can't satisfy my goals within my concept then, I won't buy wheels/tires. I'll just depend on Dinan for the equivalent HP I want. I like the sprots package wheels well enough. Thanks for your thoughts.

They are beautiful. Thank you very much for going to the trouble of posting the pics. I compromised my concept a tad. Please see below. Had I seen your pics earlier I might have ordered them or the RGRs--but in 19s. I was able to do something a bit less pricey, and am very happy with what I bumped into.
