I just took my car to a muffler shop and the guy looked at the directions and asked for the rest of the exhaust system.? According to the directions, I should be a cat-back exhaust.? For all the guys that bought this exhaust, did you guys get the pieces from the cat back to the muffler?? Also, there seems to be a vacuum line new the end (tips) of the exhaust and there is no valve on the B&B.? Do i just have it cut and plugged?? Will it affect my ECU?? I was disappointed because I was so eager to get the exhaust installed but i don't want to mess anything up.? I thought I'd ask you guys first before I did anything.? Any info would sure help as I am planning on going back there on monday.? Thanks guys

David,

I had mine installed the other day at a shop where I could get close to the installation. After some getting used to it, I have to say it sounds absolutely awesome. Regarding sound, it is incredibly smooth and powerful. I had the pleasure of driving both an Aston Martin Vanquish and DB9 yesterday (BTW both incredible), and though they sound amazing at higher revs, I was not the least bit disappointed by the sound of the B&B on my 545i when leaving the dealership. The thing that really struck me was how smooth and consistent the tone was compared to the Astons which sounded a little choppy before getting up to normal engine temperature.

Regarding installation: It is actually very simple to install. I have heard people talk of modifying or fabricating a custom bracket to ensure that the system is well nested in the lower rear apron, but it is not necessary. My install shop installed shorter rubber hangers, instead. At first, we used one and I drove on it for a few days. The single rubber hanger snapped. Then we used two narrower (but beefier) hangers and that really did the job. My exhaust fits high and tight to the apron. I would post pics but I live in salt-plagued Boston and my car / exhaust are a total mess. Since my car is a lease, I wanted to make removal easy. This is clearly the right way to go if you share that concern as well.

I hope this helps.

Didn't notice any loss of torque. Car feels a bit stronger all around, although it could be the sound fooling my butt, but I don't think so.

Sounds great with excellent performance, I'm putting a B&B exhuast system on my wish list. I can't get any mods for my 545 until Mrs. SFC_Miller gets her C cups bored out to D cups. Funny thing is I'm a leg man!!!!!!

Post some pics of the modification for the rest of the board to see. Don't forget to include some pics of the exhaust as well

Sorry, just had to say it

New rubber hanger or newly fabricated bracket either way make sure your shop can accommodate you. Point being without one of the two aforementioned changes to the stock set-up the tips will be sitting too low for most peoples taste.

If you go the bracket route keep in mind the oem piece simply screws in place and then supports the rubber hanger from there. So make sure that the shop you?re working with does the same with the newly fabricated piece (screws it in place vs. welds)?that?s what they did with mine and it?ll take me 2 minutes with a screwdriver to put the stock piece back in (should I ever need to).

I took my car to Sweeney's Custom Muffler in Torrance. I received the muffler while at work so I looked up the closest muffler shop to try and get it installed (I was really anxious to get it on) Turns out the guy said he raced with Billy Boat back when he did sprint car racing. Don't know if his story is legit but the guy has a bunch of photos of himself racing sprint cars. Anyways, I read the directions and it says to remove everything from the first connection after the catalytic converter, which hints that the system is supposed to be a full cat back system so I just want to make sure that I wasn't supposed to receive any additional pipes before I take it back to be installed (don't want to cut and weld to find out later that I didn't have to) Anyhow, I just want to know what you guys had done. It was a straight cut and weld for the new exhaust right? Vacuum line doesn't need to be connected and doesn't create an error message in I-drive right? A custom bracket may need to be fabricated but not necessary in every case. I don't know if I'll ever get a chance to make it to Mesa Muffler since I get off of work in Torrance at 6pm and might probably can't make it unless they close at 8 or 9pm. I will give Sweeney's a try. His shop seems descent and seems like he knows what he is doing. I watched him work a while before he was able to take a look at my car. If i get any bad feelings about him, I just might wait until a weekend I can get down to costa mesa.

Mine was cut after the last resonators NOT the cats. From that point they can either weld it or use the supplied clamp. I was told to crimp the vacuum hose and tie it off otherwise it could throw an error (or may cause RDS to work ).
You'll get addicted to the sound once it's on!

It couldn't be easier to install. My installer used a hand pipe cutter to make a cut at the exact spot to ensure that the tips stick out at the appropriate location. Realtyman is correct about cutting the stock pipe after the resonators and "after the last bend". Before and after the exhaust is clamped on, make sure the installer uses the high temperature silicone to seal any air that could leak.

Regarding the vacuum hose, my installer had the perfect size black rubber cap to fit on the end of the hose. It worked like a charm. Lastly, I had them wire tie the hose to itself high up behind the bumper. Once it is on the lift, what I say will make a lot more sense when you can see it first hand.

The sound started out very loud the first day. I comtemplated taking it off. Then, it mellowed considerably over the next few days. Now six days into it, the sound is absolutely awesome. I wouldn't change a thing. I honestly think you pick up a few horsepower in the mid range as well.

Just do it...a week after the install, you will not regret it!!

Happy motoring!!

Definitely!

Now it is time to turn our attention to the M-Sport Aero Package (or at least a new nose to replace the lame stock one).
