What is the going rate for the install of this simple jack? My dealer wants $76 for the (2 dollar) part and 3 hours labor! Since the bulletin from BMW gives 1 hour, that seems like highway robbery! For those of you have t have done it, how does it work?

I did mine myself, and had the dealer just program it on the i-drive. Not too bad an install if u are up for it. It works beautifully. You can goto bavauto's site and get the one for the old 5 series, they are essentially the same plug, and will work with no modification.(only 39.95)

Did you just have to plug it into a socket hanging of a harness? Or was there any cutting involved?

No cutting involved at all. When u get the aux connector, you need to pull the contacts out of the housing and then plug them into the correct ones on the back of the CCC(for nav cars) or M-ASK for non-nav.

Where is the M-ASK? What trim pannels need to be pulled off to get to it? Im just wondering if its worth doing it myself. How much were you charged for the re-code?

I think the M-ASK is behind the center console. You need to pull the a/c control panel to get to it. But to do that you need to pull the wood trim on the passenger side dash.
I was charged $50 for the recode.

I think the hard part is disassembling the dash to get to the computer right?
