Has anyone done pipe split or completely installed a new dual exhaust system on their 535? I'm looking into that and not sure which way I should go. My goal is not just the look, I do want to get a better sound but I guess I can accomplish this by installing an intake. What do you guys think?

i saw a 535i with exhaust sounded pretty nice. kind of loud dont know exactly what your looking for. i think they installed a magnaflow exhaust. obviously custom piping since they dont make them for our cars yet atleast not that im aware of. but havent really found to much information on that. as far as intake havent heard anything either.

i was thinking of doing something like that to the car as well but since there is not alot of information out yet ive been waiting to find out more.

i've been looking at the bastuck quad exhaust for the e60 535i. the bastuck quads have been available for the e92 335i, but unfortunately, they won't have any exhausts ready for the e60's until sometime this summer.

here's some pics of the quads on the e92 335i:

the reason i've been leaning towards the bastucks is because of their sound. i've been told that other quad exhausts such as the Eisenmanns are a bit louder and have more of a droning sound when ur crusin down the hwy. the bastucks have no droning sound and are just slightly louder than stock exhausts. also, bastuck is made in germany and their fit and finish look beautiful.

Based on my experince from my WRX days the droan can pretty much be eliminated by use of a high performance cat. I was running a large (3") cat and small muffler and it was a perfect sound. When I removed the cat it got loud, boomy and believe it or not sort of smelled bad. On the dyno the cat only made a 2hp difference. Just my 2 cents.

I wonder in general if there is enough space under the to fit quad exhaust.. or even have a split pipe.

Yep, I am afraid there is not enough space for 535i since 335i already has double exhaust.
BTW, the quad is too much of M poser IMHO, but I like double 90mm on 535i (if it'sa available)

One thing to note and my single concession to the V8 gang, is that with two turbines in the exhaust tract, the car will never sound as good as a naturally aspirated engine.
