if u were to see fast car nowadays....they are using like 6 piston or 8 piston caliper... like AMGs for their high end cars...

i have been wondering... what is the real reason M engineers stick to old school brakes? for the M5..its only 2 piston front...for M3 they are using nothing fancy too...

im sure M engineers believed in something that we dont know... anyone knows?

maybe old school brakes are still better?

Suspension layout and wheel offset mean reduced space for caliper / pistons.

but the BMW 2pots can still beats many AMG 8pots system

those AMG brakes are really for looks.....heavy rotors + caliper ( 8pots )....they change to 6pots with 2pcs rotors now due to many un-happy AMG owners

and i remeber there is a video testing the SL55 and the M6....you can see the M6 stop faster than a SL55 ( 8pots system )

I doubt it. Why making something more complex when simple solution work best? Also, unsprung weight is a big concern here, along with the reasons already noted above.

I am sure every make's engineers know the logic of "Why making something more complex when simple solution work best?". The must be clear reason of why more pistons are better Anyone care to explain?

i actually heard that the M5 stock brakes stops better than Brembos 8 pots...

the reason people uses brembos 8 pots is for better heat dissipation on the track...

the stopping power of OEM M5 brakes is

on the brake system....More doesn't mean good or great stopping power

a Dinan E39 M5 showcar with SC on it pushing out 638HP and still using Brembo GT F50 kit with 14" rotors only...and we are talking about a heavy front car with that much HP...i believe if those 4pots can't stop well....Dinan won't use it on a show car....they can easily slap on some 8pots and call it a day

if you're sure about your BMW brake system is sucks....try change to R tires and some better pads, fliud,ss lines and see what happen...i bet it will stop much faster than you spending $3k or so on brembo

sometimes too much means worst than before....

I believe heat dissipation as you said is mostly base on rotors....not the caliper itself....8pots caliper provides more clamping power but doesn't mean it can cool down the heat better....

some nice 2pcs rotors should do the cooling job instead of the calipers
