I am over 35, have kids and have the FULL M5 RPI exhaust system on my car (3 sections: Cats, X-Pipe, Cans/Tips). My daughter loves it. She passes out immediately upon take off. When I come to a red light and the car is at idle, she starts to cry. It's hilarious. When we put her in the X5, she's not as happy. She prefers the M.

I've also taken clients and coworkers in my M and they all love it. But then again, my car sounds like a Lambo/Ferrari, not like a Honda Civic with a set of coffee cans shooting out the back.

Hope this helps.
Any vids or sound clips of your beast C's?

My Ride: 2004 545i - Bone stock... help!
Default

545 axle back system, wife and baby girl loves it (girl sleeps, wife thinks it sounds 'mean'). It's not overly loud so she honestly didn't make the connection it was different then OEM, just commented on how she liked it and didn't notice it before .

Clients have had positive comments, and my boss loves it. It's all good.

You can pretty much make a blanket statement to say all wives hate performance exhaust.

If I had an M5, I'd have no reservations about modding because folks know an M5 means business...now, a 550, 535, etc....it's just not the same...at least IMO.

Yeah, exactly El. C bimmer, you're on it. With an M5, they probably ask you to step on it a little bit so they can experience the car. But for those of us, sigh, that can't afford an M5 but still want to drive fast and entertain the kids (cause both of mine love the thrill) in our 550, will the RPI exhaust sound like a 38 year old having an early mid-life crisis. Do you know what I mean.

I have seen the RPI exhaust youtube video, but come on, you can't tell anything from a hand held camcorder video posted on youtube. I've read so much about this RPI axle back exhaust, I'm exhausted. I think i want one, but i'm just looking around to see if anyone else is in my boat or have experience or similar thoughts.

Sometimes when I'm reading these forums I wonder who everyone else is. I mean are YOU young guys in 20's and 30's who bought these cars to mod them up like your peers do, hence the "Ultimate Tuner Machine" or are YOU more mature guys who mod for the pure horsepower and performance aspect...I just don't know.

And again, nothing wrong with either group. To each their own. But I am trying to relate more to the mature guys going for pure power and performance and not the ultimate tuner crowd. (and I got it, the 4 and 6 banger tuner cars are not usually BMW's, but with some of the pictures and mods I've seen on some of these cars, that appears to be where some of you are going)

And I'm not trying to start a generational or age war here, just looking for opinions, which you guys have done a great job on thus far. Thanks! And thanks for helping to keep me entertained sitting in my CHU (containerized housing unit) on COB Taji, Iraq at 2109 this lovely Monday evening where the temp outside is 110 STILL and the temp in my CHU is 68!
