Hi,

According to the Dension compatibility chart (http://www.dension.com/oem1.php), the Gateway 500 requires an MP3 capable CDC (if I am reading the chart correctly)? My in dash CD slot plays MP3's but the CDC does not.

Their chart shows:
BMW 5 Series, E60/61 2004 all i-Drive, Professional (CCC, 8.8", dual slot) MP3 Capable Head Unit (CDC)

Please can somebody clarify for me please before I place my order?

Many thanks,
Si.

It should be ok. If you don't get text just visit your SA and program the car for i-pod module.

None of the CDC are mp3 capable but if your dash CD has mp3 you should be OK. Actually the Dension uses a hidden feature of the BMW in that the CDC is actually capable of displaying mp3 text but the hardware is not.

Thanks - that is what I thought - that none of the CDCs were MP3 capable and that the Dension 500 would be OK as long as the in dash CD player was MP3 capable. Thanks for confirming.

What has spurred my questioin is a thread on here (or was it a UK BMW 5 forum site - I'll have to check later) that I started when I first got the e61 asking about MP3 CDCs. A recent reply said that the CDCs ARE mp3 capable and you have to ask your dealer to do it (yet another formware update) - he had a 2005 car and his CDC was now playing MP3s!

On top of that, I asked 2point5 about the Dension and Matt (great helpful chap) also said that I need a MP3 capable CDC - not just the in dash one. And finally the text above from Densions compatibilty chart!

AAARRRGGGHHHH - why does everything have to be so complicated!!!???

Cheers,
Si.

Ahh - found the MP3 CDC thread (cough - on another forum - OK to post link?)

I am getting my Dension gateway 500 installed today and although I thought I had MP3 capability, it now turns out I don't! Is it OK to have the GW500 installed anyway and than later have the MP3 capability retrofitted at the BMW dealer, or do you really have to have the MP3 capability first?

Yes please do because that will be the first report I've heard of a CDC with mp3 playback.

You will not have any problems since you have Nav. Pro (therefore, CCC). Just remember to retrofit GW500 as i-pod and not CDC.

That's great! Thank you for relaxing my mind. So, since I have NAV PRO it's not necessary that my CD player can play MP3?
Because that's what I read everywhere, or did I miss something?

I am not installing it myself, but if something goes wrong I will tell them right away to check if it is configured as an ipod and not CDC. Thanks again.

As soon as everything is built into my car and works fine, I'll post up some pics! Man, am I excited about my new stuf!

Hi,

As requested/promised:

http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=27833

Let us know what you think? My only worry is that BMW say that you need a post March 2007 car for the CDC to do MP3s - but he has a 2005 car??!!!???

Cheers,
Si.

I know about that Compatibility Chart but I'm yet not convinced that BMW have started making mp3 capable CDC. On this one I seriously do not mind being proven wrong but unless someone posts a picture on an mp3 CD in the CDC I'll be doubtful of this. Why would BMW not enable the mp3 on the new cars out of the factory if it was possible to do later on?
