Am I getting ripped off??
#1
My current car is lease and I made the mistake of modin the shit out of it. Well my lease is ending soon so I purchase a new e60 yesterday and am going to swap all the parts out. I went to the body shop yesterday to get a quote and this is what they gave me, please let me know if I am getting ripped off:
1. Repainting my current m-tech bumper (has alot of rock chips.)
2. Swapping m-tech front rear and sideskirts on current car with stock bumpers on new car
3. Swapping trunks, bc my acs trunk lip is glued on and they dont want to risk taking it off and ruining the paint.
4. ACS roof wing removal and install on new car (I could do this myself)
5. Tint new taillights
Quote $1800
I asked the guy why it was so much and he said it was bc they had to do double work bc they have to remove and install on both cars.
Am I getting ripped off ???? And if I am what price would you consider being a reasonable price for this job??
Thanks,
Brendon
Also- Would I be able to do any of this work on my own?

Brendon, you probably could shop all over and find a better deal on each individual task. If you are handy AND have the time, you probably could do some of these yourself. I gladly would pay $1800 to have all that taken care of in one fell swoop. My skills are limited, I don't have all the necessary tools, and most importantly, I don't have the time right now.

What are you returning and what are you getting, I'm just wondering if your older parts will fit on the newer body?

Are the clips for the bumpers and side skirts the same for both mtech and stock?
Depends on the year you have and what you're getting - LCI has more bracing and therefore more clips. Check on realoem.com for what you might need

i can think of a few shops in NY that should be able to do this for about a grand. I am only guessing. But $1800 for just labor does seem a lot.
One Through Five are all DIYs.
1. Repainting my current m-tech bumper (has alot of rock chips.) - approx $300
2. Swapping m-tech front rear and sideskirts on current car with stock bumpers on new car - approx $200
3. Swapping trunks, bc my acs trunk lip is glued on and they dont want to risk taking it off and ruining the paint. - approx $150
4. ACS roof wing removal and install on new car (I could do this myself) approx $100
5. Tint new taillights - aprrox $150
Let's say an extra $100 for other odds and ends. $1000 seems right to me.
