I have the General UHP 19", and with 17k miles the rear is pretty close to the wear bar, the front is a little better but not too much
questions:
1. how many miles do you get out of your 19"/20"? please state your tire size, driving style, brand/model
2. is it normal for the rear to wear out faster?
for my case, i get 245/35/19 up front, 275/30/19 rear, drives normally (not like grandma but not 'like i stole it' either
general UHP exclaim
I am just thinking if I have to change a set every 20k miles, it aint cheap doing it. Even for the cheapest ones, it costs like $600-700. Call me cheap, but in a few years, the difference in cost will make me able to afford the 530i... if i opt for more pricy tires (like PS2), I can get a 550i in less than 5 years!
i mean i love the look of my 19" lowered, but not only does these costs add up, but i have to worry about scrape wheels, every major bump drives me nuts, and my bumper will scrape quite easily (i guess that's not the fault of 19"). i guess if i have a 545 or 550 to begin with, that may makes more sense, but now i am starting to have second thoughts.

I got about 32K miles out of the rears before replacing them. I probably could have gotten a lot more if I kept my eye on the allignment. The fronts still look pretty good at 40K and were just swapped side to side when the rears were replaced. 99% of my miles are freeway style.

I think on any average they get 30k miles that's my wheels experiences, yeah i paid $1100 for my 19" nitto tires, so they do add up, if your concern about tires, i would suggest 18" best price for tires and yet you still get the performance handling, better treadwear for 18 to 19's cuz the low profile. So extra cash go for 19 inch, and 20" for those guys that really have the money to spare, cuz i go through tires really quickly too.

On Toyo's, I've consistently wore them for about 25~30K miles and this is with aggressive camber.
As for your question, the fronts should usually wear out faster than your rears.

I have 245/35/19 all round and had them for a year now and done about 8k miles on them and still looking good I think the way I drive I will be able to get about 24k miles within 3 more years. total about 32k miles.

Thanks for all your replies
Something seems wrong on my tires... I did have an alignment when I lowered it, and the tires doesn't seem to have uneven wire (well i didn't really check too closely since it's hard to see the inside because it's lowered)
I guess I should expect at least 30k miles from the responses so far...
Just wonder did you all have it lowered and got it realigned? i did get my tires from another member and he claims to have only 4k miles on it (which does look like it).
ok if i can get 30k miles or more, then i will keep the 19" =P
