My e60 is gonna come without alarm but I need an alarm for my insurance to be valid. What is a good brand (nothing fancy) that would work with the oem remote controller so I wont need a separate remote for the alarm.

in Germany its an option. My car wasnt made to order but I found one in the BMW network with the options that I like but it lacks alarm. You can definitely retrofit an alarm system to a car and make it work with the original controller of the central locking. I dont know whether functions like closing the windows and the sunroof remotely will keep working though.

I added a DEFA alarm on my Touareg. The VW/Audi alarms are not approved in Sweden, that's why I had to add it after I got the car. It's working perfectly with the car's standard remote. And since the Touareg allways have red flashing LEDs they didn't have to add any aftermarket LED in the windshield.

Good luck!
