okay dudes, a few members wanted a more in depth review with more pics.
okay....
out of the box installation is simple enough. 2 torx screws hold the factory screen. By the way, I have a 2007 530xi pre lci with no nav. ( the small boring 5 inch screen )
the new screen unit is 8 inch touch screen (awesome upgrade!) and comes with a radio harness that interconnect behind the M ask unit (cd player)
start up is cool....a new fancy BMW splash screen when loading!
the new unit comes with the sd card pre programmed IGO Nav.
it also comes with an ipod connection cord, but I keep my ipod connected to the original plug I have in my glovebox....sounds better in my opinion. No errors at all.
on the factory harness behind the cd player is a small green clip connector that must be taken out and plugged into new harness (easy to see once your back there). if you don't do this youll get a SOS error on dash (something to do with the TCU phone button I guess)
the new unit has a pink wire on the back labeled reverse....splice to positive from camera. the unit even comes with a free camera. not the best but it works!!!
everything else is just getting used to it own your own. came out to around $550 with shipping. Autocarplaza.com oh....I keep my phone bluetoothed paired to the original idrive. don't pair yours into new Bluetooth feature......people couldn't hear me well. LOL.
heres a few more pics....

Reverse guide lines actually turn with your steering movements.
***Also, forgot to mention....the nav comes with a dozen different skins (font and image color varieties)

Looks good. Are you able to play dvd's on this? if so how do you load it? Do you keep the normal Idrive menu's?(ex:check your oil, Maintenance stuff, etc etc.)
Sorry to be asking a lot of stuff. I just want to be sure of this before I d Buy it.
Thanks

happy to help u out bud.........
to play dvds you need a separate dvd player to fit in your glove box or under the seat. there are audio video cables on the rear of the unit for it.
The normal idrive screen to check your oil is still there.... just hold down the menu button 3 seconds to switch views.

Okay, so I had mine installed for about a month already. Took some getting used to but now its great. Back up camera screen comes on with guide lines, nav is always accurate. Sd card plays all my videos. Great buy for $500. Even came with free back up cam you install into license plate light.
Did you install this yourself? If you did it yourself how long did it take you? You have me interested... my stock stuff is cool, but I'm looking to make an OEM looking upgrade.
Thanks,
D
