I'm bringing my car in for new tires and was thinking about changing out the brake pads to get rid of the ever so famous BMW brake squeaking. There is about 70K on the car and the brakes were fully changed out at around 40K due to the same squeaking that of course came back within a month of the full brake service of all new pads and rotors. It's funny because I hear the exact same squeaking on at least every other BMW 5 series E60 that I see!! I think I may be able to get away with just pads so I was looking for aftermarket brake pad suggestions and, if needed aftermarket rotor suggestions. It's a 530 sport and she's not ridden hard. Just something that would be fairly equal to the factory performance, without the factory OEM price would be fine with me. Also, will I have to buy those 'brake sensors' that (I read) may be causing the incessant squeaking? Is there one sensor for the front and one sensor for the back, just two total? At the moment, there is ample pad width left on both the front and back pads.

AXXIS Deluxe pads?

What else?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I have 7,000miles on my axxis deluxe pads with out any squeaks. Have you tried spraying the back of the pads with anti squeak?

Well, I figured I might as well replace the pads if they are going to pull them off anyways.... Just to confirm, when you say the back of the pad, do you mean the part of the pad that actually touches the rotor?

Pretty sure he means the other side that contacts the caliper.

Bavarian Autosport http://www.bavauto.com/shop.asp has a selection of inexpensive pads, plus they have this-

"Noise Free Brake Squeal Silencer - 4 oz.
Reduce that annoying brake squeal with Noise Free. Noise Free helps to dampen the vibrations that cause brake squeal. "

This is what you need.

for rotors, the most popular ones we have are premium rotors that are custom drilled and slotted

You spray it on the side that does not come in contact with the rotor. You can get it at any parts store for around $5. You should pick some up anyway for any future brake jobs you plan on doing. Spray it on the day before installation for best results. Although you can install after 20 minutes.

Spray the anti-noise stuff on the back of the pad... not the side that touches the rotors. It's a metal to metal shimmy that's most likely causing your sound.
