Hi all,
Does anybody know of a navigation unit that I can stick out of sight, that has a normal RF/Composite TV output and a remote control? I have a video module for my i-drive so would love to be able to connect it up to that for the display, rather than going for something like a TomTom. Infact, what I want is basically a TomTom but without the display, with an RF output instead to drive an external screen.
Thanks

Hi Satan,
How much do you want to spend?
Buy mini mac and nav software for your car and output DVI-to-VGA-to-RCA to your i-Drive interface. Set resolution to 640x480 or so. This will enable you to play new iLife software showing up on your i-Drive screen. Very cool. I was thinking about this but I'm too lazy now.

That's a good idea. I was thinking about going down the full in-car-pc route to be honest, but ended up settling for just a hard-drive based media player to play Divx and mp3's from. Looks like I might have to rethink the in-car computer idea, as there don't seem to be any nav systems that do what I'm after.

The only problem with PC in car is DC voltage regulator which fluctuates a lot and on/off instantaneously which would cause PC to have short life. I have not had a chance to check if resolution 640x480 is good enough for i-Drive screen because I don't have VGA to RCA converter to hook up to the i-Drive interface.

There's already one, but I'm too lazy at this point. Go go mp3car.com. They sell those kind of power supply regulator which protect your PC when car turned on/shut down.
My main concerns are power supply, software limitation for Mac and screen resolution.

ok Sat, so get this it is ok, http://www.mobiletechreview.com/tips/FlyPresenter.htm no I do not have it but before I bought my first pda-nav I wanted an HP with this CF and a TFT, in the end I bought a mitac but that was for my prev car, now I have TomTom 700 Go still the best on the market except the new ones, TT GO 710-900.
So get a PDA with two CF slots one for GPS and one for the VGA card, hook to the I-drive there you go
