Got a call from Dinan the other day to see if I was interested in being the first to get the new Dinan 550i CAI for my car. Haha, like I'd say no! So to make a long story short, here it is ...
BEFORE

DURING

AFTER

Pretty much the same setup as the 545i CAI, except that the lower portion of the secondary inlet (the one with the carbon fiber tubing) is actually a piece from the intake tract of an E60 diesel (wasn't told which one specifically) for proper size, clearance, and fit. After installation, Steve Dinan took the car for a test run with one of his techs and came back smiling saying that the car's performance can almost equal that of the E39 M5. I was quoted an estimated crank hp (with all the current Dinan mods) of about 390. Sorry, no dynos. I'm sure they'll get some real numbers before they begin releasing their S, S1, and S2 packages for the 550i in the near future. But for now, all I can say is that the acceleration and throttle response (in any gear) is TREMENDOUS and lightning responsive. I thought the car was already a beast, but now ... UNBELIEVABLE POWER!!! For the first time, I was yelling out HOLY SH*T all afternoon!

You have a lot of the Dinan upgrades so it's hard for me to tell if just this item was the straw that broke the camels back or more likely the complete package you have...which is awesome by the way. Do you think this would be the best stand-alone item upgrade or is one of your other mods a better bang for the buck?

How many bucks ? 1000 ?
I'm sure that the price will be similar to that of the 545i CAI ... about $1100. There will also be a new high-flow air mass meter that will come out soon to add a little extra power.
