Dont mean to offend most of you guys but those wheels with lip dont look right at all on this car, all of the e60's came out with no lip wheels on them and its for a reason. Design of e60 dont blend with those wheels, e39 thats another story on e60 it is a no no. Whatever makes you happy I guess.
i think big lips look hot, on any car.
(i also prefer angelina jolie over jessica alba.... )

another vote for 19"............The cool thing about OEM is they always look "right" with the car since they're designed by BMW....just like the cars!

If you go for after market I'd stick with something that looks classy yet aggressive.....just don't go stick some spinners on there..!!

When you decide take some pics and let us see what you went with.....

I went for the 19" 172M...

Radenergie R10s look good in 20"s. Trust me on this. If you get the 19"s you will regret it later.

As for living in NYC, better get good road hazard insurance!

Why does a bigger wheel rob you of acceleration?
Well, I didn't clarify, but if you get larger wheels without compensating with sufficiently lower profile, then you decrease your rear-end ratio numerically. And, if you get 20's and compensate sufficiently, then you don't dare hit a pothole. Also, other things equal, 20's, for example, imply higher unsprung weight from both the wheels and tires--the worst kind of weight to increase. I don't think I mentioned it earlier, but too large wheels and, thus, too high unsprung weight, also increases stopping distances.

Depends on the wheel- Radenergie R-10's are very light, even in 20's.
And how does this look to YOU?

I just found this forum. It is really informative. I placed my order for a '07 550I I have to wait till next month. DAMN I hate waiting! The vehicle has the sport package and M aero kit. I'm looking to upgrade the wheels, but I can't decide on 19s or 20s. I know the M5 comes with 19s so I had initially considered going with the 19s. I don't want to sacrifice the ride severely. Also I live the great pothole land of NYC. However the look of the 20's are unbeatable. I don't want to change the springs on the car. I want to order wheels soon so that I have them when the car arrives. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
================================================== ==================

Hi your getting one great Bimmer, and I know it's hard waiting, but it is well worth it! I have a 2004 530i with the M aero kit and with the BMW OEM 166 M5 Rims with Bridgestones and I am happy with the ride of the 19's.

All though you probably already know the higher you go up in rim size the less side wall cushioning effect you get, and the 20's or above pot holes could play the with your new BMW 550i rims and tires, (Be sure to try and get tire road hazzard insurance in case you pop a bubble in the sidewall, if you should hit a pot hole hard, and most tire companies will give you a new tire free if you have Road Hazard insurance and mine cost me $70.00 at Kauffman Tire here In Peachtree City and is well worth it, because I have already had to use it once on some other tires I had).

Also You can buy the same rims I bought for about a 25% savings under BMW MSRP at BMW WHEELS in Scottsdale AZ, (SEE INSERT LINK) for around 356.00 to 363.00 per rim + S&H, but I don't there's SALES TAX on the net!

I hope this helps you and I wish you the best with your new 340+ HP Bimmer 550i! (That's my next choice when I buy again)

Sincerely.

R. Eddie Presley
